These two tracks from XEROPOINT both flex some serious musical muscle!!!! We start with the abrasive synth’s and minimal beats of ‘Whats Up’. A harder and more hedonistic take on the stripped back style of D&B. The approach here is quite the opposite of the deep subs you might be used to. The synths growl and spit venom, often rudely interrupted by hoover riffs and subtle shades of 90s rave.

‘Badman’ sounds like The Predator creeping through the jungle waiting to ambush his prey. Crunchy beats, shards of the amen break. The aluminiferous hole punching bassline on this robust number seethes with computer rage and rudeboy attitude. XEROPOINT  must have been pretty angry when he created these fearsome beasts in the lab. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!!!!

Xeropoint- Whats Up / Badman [Physmatics]

DJ Shadow aka Josh Davis is a well known American producer and DJ who rose to fame with his highly acclaimed debut studio album Endtroducing. As well as being a top turntablist DJ Shadow can play LIVE instrumental versions of his music which i have seen for myself and is truly amazing. This mix was recorded LIVE at Bonnaroo Festival back in June 2007 and contains some rare B sides from him as well as the more popular tunes we all know and love.

Making it’s first appearance on Soundcloud with a direct FREE download is Beating The Crates a show hosted by Morphosis who is part of the UK funksters Hong Kong Ping Pong (HKPP). Next is this writer’s pick from the LP, Mismatch x MC Blenda ‘Promise Land’ has massive crossover tune written over every kick, stab and MC Blenda bar. If you took the vibe of golden era UKG and sprinkled it on some upfront Tech-House you would struggle getting it as on point as Mismatch. And that leads to a very close second fave, that being  Rob Evs ‘I Love You’, a track with pulsing Techno style riffs and bouncing beats plus the most gorgeous and tranquil of keys. You need this album!!!
