Toronto Is Broken returns to Sub Slayers with 3 killer DnB tunes- ‘SXN’, ‘Go Halves’ & ‘Navigate’, all loaded with Toronto Is Broken’s signature experimental, intelligent and bangin’ style!!!

‘SXN’ sounds like the Jungle of 2050, the trademarks are there, rolling breaks and MC samples but this is oh so different. Things start in a deep fashion before the beats begin to pummel like a pneumatic drill!!!

Navigate’ is a journey to a distant galaxy where  cybernetic organisms assimilate you with Neurofunk

‘Go Halves’ is the most out of the box of this trio, a scary voice urges the listener to go halves while synths fire off in a bodiless fashion over one of the most classic of classic breaks. You might say it sounds like the feeling of participating in an astronaut’s zero gravity tolerance test but a lot more fun and much more danceable!!! We’ve just been reminded how amazing  Toronto Is Broken is, take a listen!!!

New Vision Records is a label that’s new to us here on the ward. After checking them out, we’ve found that their aim is to promote fresh new talent from the electronic music scene from anywhere in the world. They don’t discriminate against genres and like ourselves, believe that good music is good music and it should be heard.

Our first introduction to the kind of music they release comes from American producer, NAAR. He himself has a new vision on the music he makes as he’s recently changed codes, taking him from Hip Hop to Tech House. His debut release is this free 4 track House EP ‘Mr Lee‘ and a listen will confirm that his change in direction is an inspired one!

His superb EP kicks off with ‘Switch‘, a highly intoxicating techy roller. Flick the ‘switch’ and set your soul alight. Next up is ‘At Barry’s House‘ and if Barry’s dropping tunes like this at his House, I want in! This Acid tinged groover is gonna make you move! The title track of the EP ‘Mr Lee‘ is the final track from NAAR on the EP and what a breathtaking stunner it is. You’re happy place is where you’ll be heading when it gets a hold of you. Completing the EP is a remix of ‘Mr Lee’ by long time label friend, Oliver Rees. He’s cranked up the intensity levels and has come up with a tune that’ll have your dancing shoes begging for mercy!

NAAR’s ‘Mr Lee’ EP was recorded live and as you’re about to hear, it gives a great energy to the sounds he creates.  Find all you need below and enjoy.

Jo Manji have been racking up plays on their Spotify page at a rapid rate, which is no surprise at all once you’ve checked out the amazing selection of House and Chillout music they make. As well as creating classy originals, the duo have a huge collection of bootlegs, remixes and edits to sift through. The most recent one of these remixes is their 2017 refresh of an all time old skool classic ‘Anthem‘ by, N-Joi. It’s always gonna be hands in the air time when such a tune is being played and the injection of new life Jo Manji have pumped into their remix, means that you will be reaching for the skies over and over again once more. Great stuff!

Chip Butty Records present ‘Chip Shop Vol 2′, a mixed artist compilation of underground and upfront bass music with some of the scene’s biggest and brightest names on board

We start with Dr. Oscillator ‘Cocaine VIP’, a fast paced 4×4 bassline track with booming subs and sustained blasts of wall shaking wubs. Shaun Dean – Stop The Bullet VIP propels us on a happy collision course with the original Sheffield sound or the ‘Niche Sound’. Garage style vocals find room in the high-octane kicks and throbs of this Shaun Dean banger with the explosive properties of a Mentos trapped in a coke bottle.

Dr Cryptic – Murphy opens in scary Sci-Fi fashion with USS Enterprise bleeps and Starfleet communicator sounds before an ominous voice (Robocop) precedes a murky invasion of Tech/Neuro stabs and crackly kicks. Rowdy chipmunk vocals and Funky/Hard House style keys are how Sekt-87 – Bop The Bass begins just before this get seriously squelchy while staying super funky!!!

A bit of tongue in cheek fun it is then for Sammy Virji – Norton, a track that goes in via the oldskool garage route with a quirky vocal, at least for the first minute or so. After that, it flips into a hard as nails banger with striking stabs. Staying on that 2 step tip is Ussy – Rolls Royce, the chopped up girly vocals and stepping beats are soon met with a high-pitched bassline making for a nice contrast of classic soul and hardy hardware!!!

It appears the jungle came alive and took Deadbeat UK who returned with ‘Luv’, jungle sirens and atmospheric chords meet roaring lions in musical form for the oldskool meets nuskool stomper-watch out for some more R&B diva vocals making an appearance towards the middle!!! Its time to get griiimeyyyy for Little Mesters & Fiyahman –  Bun Dem, time to crank up the tempo, strap on the sinister strings and go heavy with the duelling bass!!!

Next up, the badman don dada Rico Tubbs shows us why he is the boss!!! Ravey pianos and a skanker of a lead riff, that’s a ‘Warning’ that must be heeded!!! We stay on full steam with Liam B – Law Breaker, a ragga style ravin’ rocket!!!

The familiar sounds of the horns made famous by Tim Taylor back in 92 act as the battle call that opens AudioGutter – Yakisoba, perhaps the raviest track on this comp after Rico Tubbs with Korg Pianos and hectic beats with drumrolls aplenty. And we see things out with the comedic samples and grungey synths of Judge Chucky – Customer Service (Klassic Remix), a tune that rather like the angry phone call recipient featured within should not be messed with!!!

Chip Shop Vol 2 needs to be on your menu, it’s the vital fix for your taste for bass!!!

A few days ago I attached a short video of this remix of The Prodigy‘s ‘Voodoo People‘ from, Phibes, on another post featuring a few more of their Drum n Bass weapons. I’m now very excited to tell you all that it has landed and it’s creating some seismic shock waves that are being felt across the lands. It’s disgusting, it’s filthy, it’s full on and I love it! Don’t be afraid to let your neighbours enjoy to, if you know what I’m sayin’?

There’s a number of EP series out there that I look forward to hearing the next volume of and Daytoner’sBest Of The Shedits‘ EP series is one I look forward to as much as any. It’s titled ‘Shedits’ simply because the of the location where Daytoner creates his magic, a small wooden shed in Cornwall and with gorgeous surroundings like that all around and the silky production skills he possess’, the music he makes is always of the highest calibre.

For volume 3, Daytoner has rewound all the way back to 1967 and 1969 for the sources of his 4 remixes and what choices he has made! The EP kicks off with a Funky Breaks mashup of ‘Dead End Street‘ by, Lou Rawis and ‘Apache‘ by, Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band, and the result is one that’ll have Funk n Soul fans leaping off their seats in absolute joy at what their hearing. The second track is a remix of Symarip’s rude boy anthem – ‘Skinhead Moonstomp‘. This broken beat Ska influenced remix has extra keys, beats, bass and horns and hey, who doesn’t like an extra dose of horns!? One things for sure, it’s an absolute party starter!

Track 3 on the EP is a remix of Chuck Jackson’sCan You Feel It, Babe?‘ and this is most definitely one of the most feel good tracks I’ve ever heard, and I’ve listened to a lot of feel good music. This soulful Breaks remix is fixed up with new mellotron, synths, horns, strings, beats and percussion, with the tempo quickened so that DJ’s can use it to maximum effect on the dance floor. The final track off the EP is another slab of gold as he again delivers a soulful Breaks spin, this time on The EmotionsI Like It‘ and what a ray of sunshine it is. You’ll be rescued from the darkest of times with this track by your side.

You can look at volumes 1,2 and 3 of ‘The Best Of Shedits’ as the perfect hat-trick. One’s a glorious curling shot into the top corner, the other is a bullet header that pings of the forehead and into the back of the net and to finish off, a crisp, thunderous 30 yard volley that whistles in between the sticks. Just like the goals being ones you want to watch again and again, Daytoner’s music is the kind you want to listen to again and again. Find all 4 of the tracks on his new EP below and the link to land some pretty amazing music.
