STANTON WARRIORS: LOVING ME WRONG

Here’s an unreleased track (but watch for it soon I’m sure) from STANTON WARRIORS. While some might not expect the Warriors to veer in the direction this track takes, rest assured, it’s all Dom and Mark. It shows some of their roots and the influence they’ve had on dance and dj culture, while casting a bright light on the future of it.

BANG LIKE THIS/TOM SHOWTIME VIDEO

Ben & Lex – Bang Like This ft The Pharcyde (GFD010)
Remix by Howla
Release date: 05/05/2014
I’ve just left the GFHQ underground love bunker to secure the services of the female lead/love interest/remixer for the next GF EP “Bang Like This” I’m slightly in shock and awe because when I left the Armani suited George Clooney, the Gucci slippered Ghetto Funk and the Versace vested Matt Damon they had one name circled on their whiteboard under vocals; The Pharcyde. The. Bloody. Pharcyde! Under really filthy big guns they’d written Ben & Lex (Matt Damon had underlined Ben & Lex a lot, whilst high fiving the other two and whooping like a mad wolf)
I called Sandra but she’s filming Gravity II “pigs in space” and Julia is back in rehab but I did find Howla wearing a wig and a Chinese dress in a back alley offering to do unmentionable things for two dollar. A retouch of lippy, a splash of Anais Anais, some mouthwash and she’ll be alright, for there’s no one finer trained in the art of “blowing the back doors off”.
Ben & Lex ft Uncle Imani (from the Pharcyde) & Taraach – Bang Like This
Are we kidding? Hell no!
When is it out? As soon as Howla has stopped sexoring Ben, Lex and Uncle Imani x
JFB: “Sick! Really like Howla’s mix”
BADBOE: “Solid tune and some cool remixes!”
BRYX: “Dope!”
TONIC: “Howla smashing it as always on the remix”
TIMOTHY WISDOM: “The horns mix is the real deal!”
PIMPSOUL: ”Best thing on Ghettto Funk for ages, original mix is awesome…full support!”
BASEMENT FREAKS: “Rad”

FAT SUSHI: SEND ME [SEX PANDA]

Following their releases on OFF Recordings, Suara & Light my Fire, FAT SUSHI deliver a glistening single on Sex Panda White. “Send Me” is deeply influenced by 80s shimmer, topped with sweeping synths and layered with moody kicks.
The single gets some massive remix treatment from Moonwalk who replaces some of the 80s gloss of the original with a more sinister and dark vibe, taking the track nearly into the depths of techno. Watch for the release to drop on April 28.
Oh, and here’s Fat Sushi’s latest free download if you missed it too!

KRUSE & NURENBERG: BOOM BOOM CIAO EP [OFF RECORDINGS]

KRUSE & NURENBERG are back with a two-track release on Berlin’s OFF Recordings. On the a-side, “Boom Boom Ciao” opens with a classic house stomp. It escalates rather quickly, booming with a driving bassline and filtered keys. On the flip, “Two Stories” is a bit more chilled. If the title track is peak hour material, then the b-side might do well to give the dance floor a bit of a breather. This track remains a deep affair however, perfect to get lost in while dancing with your eyes closed in dimly lit spaces.

Phibes – Party Poppers Vol. 2 [Free EP]

So here it is, Phibes are back again folks with our second batch of free tunes, the appropriately named Party Poppers 2,fresh off the press just in time for spring break!
Phibes‘ been dabbling in some glitch, some hop, some hop glitch and some glitch hop and
Both tracks have been cranked through systems nationwide and were happy to say they have been unanimously glitch and hop approved!
Straight out the box is our take on the Parov Stelar classic Booty swing, They’ve mashed up the trumpets, and thumped up the breaks in an attempt to make the swing hop and the electro glitch, while Till the break of dawn is a funky/glitchy breaks baby they have brought up over the past few weeks.
We hope it gets your head bobbing and your feet itching!
Hope you all enjoy, we’ve loved every minute…
All the best from the Phibes!

Jimi Needles Record Store (Issue 1)

What better day than Record Store Day to launch my new GhettoFunk exclusive blog post ‘Jimi Needles Record Store‘. To put it simply, I’m going to be periodically rating and reviewing purchasable music from established, upcoming & underground artists on numerous different scenes, and before you ask, yes, both digital & vinyl releases! I’ll also be throwing in free releases from time to time, and GhettoFunk exclusives too, so keep your darn eyes peeled!
TLC – No Scrub (Drop Out Orchestra Remix)
Label: Homesick || Taken From: Homesick #1 || Genre: Absolute Disco || Release: Vinyl Only via Juno (28 April 2014)
From the guys that bought you that absolutely stunning remix of ‘Get Lucky’ last year (A remix that, to my knowledge, has never officially or unofficially been released) now bring to the disco rework community an absolute ballin edit of the RnB classic ”No Scrub”. It literally sounds like Nile Rodgers produced the track; I’m guessing they were going for that all-so-fashionable disco revival sound, and nailed it. It’s such a good rework it could pass as the original to people who have been locked in some musical time warp for 20 years. Check this… (4/5)
Catch the Drop Out Orchestra LIVE in LONDON at “Cubed” @ The Queen of Hoxton, London, UK on the 5th July.
Trio Valore – Liars & Cheaters
Label: Record Kicks || Listen: ”Crazy” || Genre: Mod-Funk || Release: Limited 45 Run, Digital Download (28 April 2014)
I love this. I had the pleasure of meeting drummer Steve White (The Style Council, Trio Valore) at a stompin’ Record Kicks 10th Anniversary party in central London back in November last year. The supergroup trio performed a magical hammond-lead cover of ‘Crazy’ by Gnarles Barkley and from that moment I was hooked, and of course, wondered if they’d ever lay this down for the DJs to spin. Luckily they did, and they’ve captured that vibe so well. The flip is a rolling funk number called ‘Liars & Cheaters’ which boasts phatty drum breaks, brass & hammond solos which rounds off the cut rather well indeed. (4/5)
Keep up to date with Trio Valore.
Kitten & The Hip – Hello Kitten
Label: Pedigree Cuts|| Listen: “Shut Up & Dance” || Genre: Swing Pop || Purchase: iTunes (21st April 2014)
Swingsters Ashley Slater & Miss Quinn are Kitten & The Hip. Formed in 2011, their aim was to bring swing and pop together, and the result is a cheeky, classy, energetic and upbeat debut album! With ”Shut Up & Dance” boasting much success already (it’s my favourite from the album) and a whopping 75,000 plays on
already, they also boast an energetic live show when touring. Listen to the entire album below. (4.5/5)
KATH are playing in BIRMINGHAM. Tonight! For more of their shows have a peep here.
Machette - It’s Right And It’s Ok (EP)
Label: Dred Collective || Listen: “When I Pull Up It’s So Fresh” || Soundcloud: @DredCollective || Genre: Juke, Footwork, Bass || Purchase: Donations via Bandcamp (Digital Only)
Digging deeper… I’m currently on tour in Estonia at the moment, and the one thing that amazes me about the guys I’m hanging out with here is their knowledge and love of UK musical subcultures, especially the golden era of DnB (circa late 90s, early noughties stuff). What also amazes me is their knowledge of current underground music, stuff that’s right under our noses. Some of you might be familiar with ‘Juke House’ or ‘Footwork’ as it’s usually known, the ‘Dred Collective’ are a label & blog that you simply must start following. Machette‘s music can only be described a colourful, funky and truly individual, and wouldn’t sound too out of place in some funky breaks or even DnB parties. Some of the most interesting sounds I’ve heard this year on my travels for sure. (5/5)
Purchase the EP “It’s Right & It’s Ok” HERE.
Illectrix – Digital Evolution (Free Album)
Label: N/A (Self Release/Free) || Listen: To The Whole Album! || Genre: Future Funk / Glitch || Purchase/Stream: HERE
London’s very own Illectrix has a bright future. After receiving much love on the blogosphere from giants such as EDM & GlitchHop.com, it’s time a shared you guys his debut album. I’m betting my scratch hand (I’m a leftie, for those who don’t know) that in the years to come we will be billing Illectrix as the UK’s very own answer to Kill Paris or Grizmatik. The album spectacles are ‘Give It To Me’, a James Brown vs RHCP megamash with huge beats, bass, filters and sawtooth synth, and ‘The Real Deal’ (below) which is a hyped up lil number, moaning synths and funky shuffles make this the chunkiest party tune on this release. (4/5)

Thanks for reading GhettoFunkers! Keep your eyes peeled for future Record Store episodes!

Hamilton - Fire

Hamilton drops his New Single Fire !!
This ones a head Down Dnb Smasher
“Be There “ is a very Clever n deep Roller
These will work !!!
Fire in the hole! Hamilton is back… And he’s packing two of his most explosive tracks to date.
Following the runaway success of last year’s ‘Schema’ EP – a release that gave us huge reloads such as ‘You Had It’ and ‘Your Love’ – both ‘Fire’ and ‘Be There’ raise his bar high than ever before, developing his broad, muscular sound with undiluted creativity and energy.
‘Fire’ is super-charged with deadly dramatic dynamics. You’ll recognise the vocal straight away. What you won’t recognise is the matchless levels of intricate texture within the groove; deep layers of drums and bass tones that tear, sneer and snarl throughout. Concentrated darkness abounds, especially during the insane build-up, as Hamilton showcases his ability to balance a rich array of elements while ensuring the message is loud, clear and consistent. Dancefloor chaos guaranteed.
Next up: ‘Be There’. Already championed by Andy C on his ‘Nightlife 6’ album, this shows an entirely different side to Hamilton. Seductive, funky and sprung with surprises, there’s a great sense of both might and musicality as the ever-consistent artist explores a wide range of influences; the impeccable widescreen 80s synth drum fills, the classic mid 90s two-step rhythm, the sassy keys and vocals, spine-melting synths and chunky basslines! There’s nothing out there like this right now. And we just know it’s going to scintillate a lot of festivals this summer.
Two more incredible premium tracks: Hamilton has smashed it… Yet again!

LX ONE - Reflect

AVAILABLE ON VINYL & DIGITAL IN APRIL 2014
LX ONE returns with another stirling release in the warm up to dropping his much anticipated debut album on Wheel and Deal.
Reflect has had constant support from N-Type, Youngsta, J Kenzo, Distance, Icicle & Faze Miyake. It is the logical progression in the style and quality of LX ONE's signature dark minimal sound. This release once again puts his productions at the pinnacle of modern Dubstep.
Distorted Politics is a fresh Tribal banger with rib shaking bass and infectious percussion. Once again this has featured massively in N-Type, Youngsta, JKenzo, Icicle & LX ONE’s DJ sets, and is another testament to his talent.
