DJ LBR & BIG ALI: REAL PARTY (SLYNK REMIX) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Australia’s funkiest DJ/Producer SLYNK is set to head out on a whirlwind tour of Europe this June (dates below). The six date tour will see him bring the funk to each country’s respective scene. In support of this exciting announcement he put his long coveted bootleg of DJ LBR & Big Ali’s “Real Party” up for free download.

Since relocating to Vancouver, Canada in July last year Evan Chandler (that’s the name his momma gave him) has been busy taking his distinct blend of funky breaks, glitch hop, and drum & bass, along with his impressive turntable skills all over the globe. The past 12 months have seen Slynk come home from his first European tour, perform nationally across Canada, dominate the North American festival scene, and stop back down under to Australia & NZ for a set of dates.
Known for his impressive catalogue of original tracks, bootlegs, and collaborations, Slynk recently celebrated taking home the esteemed Breakspoll ‘Best Free Track’ award for his collaboration with Canadian DJ/Producer STICKYBUDS on their bootleg of “Full Tilt Boogie” by Uncle Louie.

PLASTIKMAN – EX ALBUM PREVIEW

No matter your techno orientation, it is difficult to dispute Plastikman (aka Richie Hawtin)’s reach and impact when it comes to bringing this music to the world, so it is not surprising that techno lovers were overjoyed this week to the announcement on June 4th, Hawtin’s birthday, that his next Plastikman album would be released this summer. Never one to “just” do an album, this time he has paired up with SubPac for a special limited edition release of a portable bass system which supposedly allows one to “feel” the music as you would in a club.
His albums are always prolific; just last week, after returning from Detroit where I reconnected to chat with Hawtin once again at Movement, I was jamming some old techno tunes with a friend and Helikopter (from the brilliant Sheet One album) made its way on to the turntable.
At Movement itself, the classic Spastik (Dubfire rework) was still heard countless times.
The amazing thing about these tracks is that even though they are vintage, they continue to sound futuristic. This is true of the live Plastikman performances as well – I caught the Plastikman Live 1.5 show a couple years back at Brixton Academy in London, and to this day the juxtaposition of old and new, past and future resonates with me.
So here is a brief preview, to help get you (even more?) excited at the idea of yet another batch of prolific tunes from Plastikman.
The album is released digitally June 10 with a special exclusive party June 12 at Sonar Barcelona. Anyone planning to be at Sonar should work to get tickets to this….STAT!
The Limited Edition Sub Pac, Vinyl, and CD release will follow on July 14th.

30S: STOCKHOLM SYNDROME (FT. ZOEE) [BLACK BUTTER RECORDS]

Black Butter Records continue to expand on their increasingly robust and diverse catalogue. The latest, a quirky, chilled jam from 30s featuring the sultry vocals of ZOEE. “Stockholm Syndrome” is more feely than much of the imprint’s previous, dancefloor dominating releases. Definitely worth a click.
Artist and filmmaker Quentin Jones got a hold of the tune and put it to use for a kinky short with Miley Cirus. Peep below. No pun intended.

DEUX TIGRES & ERKKA: WHO’S THE ONE [OFF RECORDINGS]

OFF Recodings continue with the 22nd release in their OFFSPIN series. The two track EP is yet another collaborative effort, this time marrying the talents of DEUX TIGRES and ERKKA. The title track, “Who’s The One” digs a bit of a funky groove out of the vocal sample, subtle bassline, and minimal percussion. “Sunkissed” lays down an exceptional use of jazzy chords and electric piano stabs working their way into a bassline for the perfect accompaniment to a poolside party.
Grab the mp3s on Beatport and/or the vinyl from deejay.de.

Koma & Bones – Nu Horizons 02

Koma & Bones were a three man outfit from the north west of Britain (Lancaster), comprising of the dj’ing duo Andy Duckmanton & Chris Kirkbride, and former drum and bass producer Proteus (Jude Sebastian). Brought together by a deep love of twisted breakbeat the trio became one of the strongest breaks ‘groups’ in the scene.
With all the main players championing their music they released tracks on all the big labels such as TCR, Lot49, Perfecto Breaks and more. With a hardcore following of dedicated breaks heads lapping up their deep, twisted, electro-tech breakbeats they are one of the most missed artists from the golden era of breaks. Their last release was in 2008/2009. Check out their full back catalogue on Discogs - www.discogs.com/artist/11386-Koma-amp-Bones & buy what you can on Beatport - www.beatport.com/artist/koma-and-bones/2176

B-Side & Detta – 3 Is The Magic Number (9 Free Downloads)

In case you missed it, All 9 tracks are now available for free download!
Three. It’s the magic number.
And B-Side, Detta and Ghetto Funk are going to prove it to us. Apparently we have three guess before they chop us into bits….bit harsh but here goes….. by juggling three lilly livered Llamas? “Nope!” Shouts B-Side as he snaps on a pair latex gloves with the efficiency of a surgeon and selects an axe from the garage wall. Bugger. Ok. Ummmm, how about wrestling three frankly fearless foxes? “Noooo!” sing-songs Detta as he takes the axe from B-Side and swooshes it around a bit whilst Ghetto Funk calmly lays out a roll of PVC and puts on a Huey Lewis CD. Crikey, these three mean business, might have been slightly too flippant with our first two answers…..could they be sending the three Kardashian sisters round to smash my place up, shit in a box, wear kiss make up, strain urine through tights, tell bawdy jokes and regale me with tall tales of gay sailors? WAIT! That wasn’t an answer! I was just thinking aloud! Damn! Hang on, look at the calendar….Hey, are you guys releasing three EP’s in three weeks of three tracks each starting on the third day of the third week of the third month of this very fine year? Their faces have dropped and amongst much mumbling and grumbling B-Side’s putting the axe back on the wall, Detta’s rolling up the PVC and Ghetto Funk is checking their cufflinks and throwing down a massive Huey REWIND!
That’s the power of love! Wait, that’s the power of three! It still is the magic number! Phew!
