WOZ: TRUST MEH [BLACK BUTTER RECORDS]

The promo text from Black Butter Records for the latest WOZ single goes like, “The first track from his upcoming EP ‘Cherry Hill’ – ‘Trust Meh’ underlines why you should, in fact, always trust the Bristolian hype machine. A trademark Woz production, bringing his unmistakable inner-city bassline and trademark touch of wildness that reiterates his uniqueness in the scene at present.”
While that description is accurate, sometimes you just have to hear the track. This is, like, whoa…

HANNAH WANTS & CHRIS LORENZO: SIGNS [ULTRA]

HANNAH WANTS could arguably pass for one of the most talked about producer/dj combos in the bassy house world of 2013/14. Her seemingly perpetual rise has gone nearly exponential over the last year and some, with production work signed to labels such as Food, Dirtybird, and Rinse.
The production work under Hannah’s belt has consistently been co-produced by CHRIS LORENZO, whose handywork has been stamped on countless releases over the past year or two.
The latest from the pair of skyward house and bass enthusiast won’t disappoint, but if you’re expecting something a bit more raw, you may want to simply savour this. The sonics from the pair’s past collaborations are there but this one, featuring the vocal work of Janai, is a bit harnessed. Sultry and perhaps slightly smokey, the single on Ultra Music would serve well for both the dance floor as well as the soundtrack to practically any life-defining moment.

B-Roll’s Bassbins #2
Morning breakers! Couple of belting releases for you this week, and in a new addition to this column – I flick back through my breaks vinyl to highlight a tune from what I consider to be the golden age of breaks. Not to take anything away from the releases these days, but I seem to hear a lot of older mixes cropping up again online, and the tunes still do the business. Nothing wrong with looking back and reflecting how we got to where we are today!

Gotta be careful about not putting too much Finger Lickin records stuff in here, but it’s hard. Looking at my collection, I have loads and loads of their records, white labels too. Part of what makes these records so awesome for me is the great artwork by Jem Panufnik. Serious talent. If I had my way, my flat would have every one of his covers framed up on the walls. Not sure what Mrs. B-Roll would think about that! Both tracks are absolute corkers, Foxy Moron is a serious acid-tinged banger, but you they both still hold up real well.
Buy it here.
While we are on the subject of Jem Panufnik, here is his tasty release on his musical alter-ego – Jem Stone. With remixes by Featurecast and some tasty lyrical flows, you need this in your box. Digital exclusive, available from Juno here.
Morlack – Loose Booty
French funk blaster Morlack brings a 14-track album of Nu/Ghetto/Glitch and swing style funk. Nice mix of styles and vocals, an album you could actually listen to, not just for the dancefloors!
Janette Slack & Some DJ Feat. Tuhin Chisti – Kut Me Sum
Renowned breaks DJ Janette Slack recently upped sticks and shifted to the other side of the world. London’s loss is Hong Kong’s gain though, and here we have her first EP release from that side of the pond. Solid package here. Original track is a nice rising breaker, but there are some super remixes too. Funkanomics turn in a trap-esque re-work, while B-Side brings it to the Ghetto Funk side of things. The Chamber version though, is the one that sent shivers down my spine. Deep rolling bassline, total winner.
Lots to like here, can’t wait for the next release! Buy now from Juno.

Marvin Gaye-Rockin’ After Midnight (Ruckus Roboticus Remix)
Part drum machine, part turntable, ALL funk machine, that is Ruckus Roboticus. This dude has caught some major breaks in his career and it’s all down to his masterful and forward thinking way of producing music. Ruckus Roboticus is the funkiest funkster in town judging by his back catalogue of tracks on his Soundcloud page. If funk is your thing then this is the artist for you!
Here Ruckus Roboticus takes on a remix of one of the best male vocalists ever, Marvin Gaye. Taking his 80′s jam Rockin After Midnight Ruckus he gives it a modern day make over and turns it into one of those feel real good House tracks you’d here spinning at any sunshine soaked party. With added funk and bounce Ruckus has delivered a piece of class any dance music fan would be happy to have a boogie to!
