KOKIRI: RETROSPECT [LOVE & OTHER]

We have a few Love & Other releases to catch up on but their latest, the imprint’s 13th, is a slice of house heaven. Liverpool’s KOKIRI pounds out some 90s vibes with some punchy piano and lush vocal hooks.
ILLYUS & BARRIENTOS – who recently dropped their Stranded EP on Love & Other – build upon Kokiri’s catchy, chord-heavy original, applying their signature dose of deep and garage-fueled bass lines.
Watch for the release to drop on iTunes on October 11, or if you prefer your digital files from beatport, it comes out on October 20.

Simon Says (Get The Fuck Up) (DUB:RA EDIT)

Today we have a very special exclusive cut from Latvian DJ, producer and Ghetto Funk extraordinaire DUB:RA.
He has provided us with a simply monster sized, mid tempo / ghetto funk reworking. Taking the bass heavy sounds of the Brillz & ETC!ETC! bootleg remix of the classic Pharoahe Monch – Simon Says, he turns out a firing rework that’s right up there with Featurecast & A Skillz tunes.
If you’re feeling this then get yourself over to his Soundcloud where you’ll find stacks more crunchy re-edits and bass heavy tracks.

Freestylers – Saturday Night Flava
It seems I can’t deny! The Freestylers get busy and in 5.13 create a mash up some of their favorite tunes … Ladies and gentlemen, this rocks. Using ‘The Shakedown – at night’ from 2002 as the main riff it is re-vamped, re-funked and re-fulled for 2014. What ever your genre, this weapon of choice is a peak-time classic.

These Throwback Thursdays seem to come around quicker and quicker but it’s no bad thing as I get to have a scout around for quality free downloads that are still out there.

Abyss- The ‘Ardcore Schwartzenegger EP

A treat for the vinylists out there, you better be quick with this one though as copies are limited, as the title suggests, the 2 tracks are themed on seminal 80′s Arnie movies, first up is the rumbling ‘Predator’ sounding like Remarc back in the day, huge sub bass, tightly spliced and crisp amen breaks and tons and tons of D.A.R.K atmos, ‘The Butcher Of Bakersfield’ is just a must have track, slickly produced, The Running Man theme tune gets an amen workover to get militant over!!! If you love Jungle, love a bit of the old plastic and happen to be a bit of an old skool Arnie fan then like we say, be qucik, get to de choppaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Lust

Scratch Jaguar Skills Hooks up with DnB Bad Man Chords
The result is
Lust
A Smooth n Soulful Dnb Roller with Matti Roots on the Mic
Out Now on Ram Records: http://tinyurl.com/nevyg8t
Jaguar Skills needs little introduction; he’s infamous for his ninja-like DJing skills with years stacked behind the decks.
As a result, it was no surprise the artist tried his hands at production alongside Chord’s impressive musicality. Already unstoppable from its conception, ‘Lust’ could only be released on an imprint known for its high quality. And RAM Records is proud to unleash this toe-tapping, catchy piece of sonic artwork on the dnb community…One that’s already taken the radio airwaves by storm.
Opening with a rhythm that curls itself around your aural senses, prepare to be pulled into ‘Lust’ by its funky groove and well-chiselled hooks. The vocal delight of Matti Roots really brings light to the seasonal feel this track creates; an arpeggio of notes underpins each high-hitting voice crescendo. Bright but not without substance, Chords’ production style is instantly recognisable. This debut from Jaguar Skills serves as a perfect platform for the high standards this mix-maker is about to set, as well as the benchmark which Chords has already carved.
On the flipside, Break holds onto the A-side’s sunny disposition, yet throws down a riddim that hits as heavy as a freight train. The foundations laid by the producer are slightly different, as it rattles forward with clinking percussion, alluding to the kind of drop Break is renowned for. With his distinctive, boundary-pushing drum rolls and bouncy, booming and concise hits, there’s no mistaking a sound which adds another dimension to the remixes’ original.
You’re also served up with another dish which is vastly different from house-guru Monstro. like the previous edit, the record’s humanism winds up within the first thirty seconds, however the seismic impact of its drop rolls out into a house-bassline that thumps with every bar. A genre transition which doesn’t fall short of the original’s production prowess, prepare to hold onto your seats because this serves as the optimal way to wrap up two striking remixes of an already impressive track list.
Dominating playlists for years to come, this release from RAM is yet again taking the genre to another level. But considering the parties involved, there was no other direction for this record to take.

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is very proud to finally drop a full 4-track EP with one of our favorite producers in the funky breaks scene: Mr. Rory Hoy. Rory has strong roots in the sounds from the bigbeat era, but on the Funktopia EP he is showing a new side to him by dropping some more bass heavy ghetto funk type jams. To embrace this more club oriented sound he’s brought along some fellow ghetto funk producers such as the upcoming ghetto funk wonderboys: Phibes as well as a true legend in the funky breaks scene: Skeewiff. Finally he has teamed up with funk producer PulpFusion on the final cut on this EP.
Rory has been successful in reaching outside the nu funk scene to a wider audience and has even had tunes getting picked up by Disney and has featured on British and American TV several times and his tunes are played on some American TV Shows and in stores like Macy’s and on internal Airlines. Rory have had 5 albums released on Freddy Fresh’s Howlin’ Records label and has had support from people like Fatboy Slim and Mr. Scruff. Rory has been bringing his funky sounds all over Europe including doing an opening act at the Official Tour De France Fan Park in Harrogate. Rory approach to music being in a fun and vibrate form seems to have a broad appeal across the board and here at BBP we have been loving what he does from the get-go.
So get ready to get your boogie on, cuz this release is all about having fun and getting down to the funk grooves.
A. The EP kicks off with the bass heavy Ass Shakers Song, which shows the ghetto funk style that Rory has adapted on this particular release. This jam has everything we love here at BBP: from the oldskool funky breaks to the crisp ghetto funk basslines – all beautifully arranged for dancefloor destruction.
B. Phibes follows up with their remix of the Ass Shakers Song by capturing the essense of the samples from the original track and adding some of their signature ghetto funk beats and wobble basslines. This remix is a sure shot for any funky dj and it will blend in perfectly in any ghetto funk DJ-set.
C. On the flip side we see legendary funky breaks producer Skeewiff picking up samples from one of Rory’s album tunes and turning it into a disco inferno. Classic funky breaks at it’s best.
D. Finally Rory teams up with PulpFusion to drop a bigbeat inspired jam to set things in perspective as the EP is running out. Look out for PulpFusion’s upcoming Funk Never Sleeps 12” vinyl – which also includes a remix by Rory Hoy – coming soon on BBP.
Reviews:
“After a series of house flavoured releases, Rory Hoy flips the vibe back to the beats and bass he first made his name with. “Ass Shakers Song” lives up to its name in every possible way; bold bass grit, hype rap chants and a dramatic breakdown, if your floor aren’t shaking their jacksies when you drop this you haven’t played it properly. Dig deeper to find the straight-up acid attack “Get This Thing Started” and two premium remixes: a nu-funk glitch-ridden rub from Phibes and a disco funk flavoured remix of “Party On This Side” by Skeewiff. Funktopia indeed!”
