Get ready for a schooling in breakology, a dark one that harks back to the innovative and much missed 93 sound, the very antithesis of 1992’s euphoric piano fueled ‘happy’ breakbeat hardcore sound and a much closer proximation to the hip hop origins of UK rave music. Abyss’s ‘Dubplate Style’ embodies this (1993) sound perfectly, its as if you are back there again, heavyily cut and diced hyperspeed breaks, deep skull crunching subs and mentasm stabs with hip hop vox, definitely not for the faint hearted, if you have the fortitude, this modern slice of darkcore should be sitting right at the top of your collection
