Specimen A has ended 2015 and started 2016 with a real bang! First up is two new free downloads that have been released very recently on, Electric Avenue. ‘On Fire Again’ is an absolute stomping monster with a gnarly Electro House vibe about it and ‘Fuck Up The Party’ will do just that as it rains down it’s Glitchy goodness on your party and even has a, Wild West, guns at dawn intro and breakdown going on! Ferocious stuff all round!

If that wasn’t enough, last month, Specimen A joined forces with, Atomic Drop and Cheshire Cat, to put together a three track EP of blistering beats! In a melting pot they threw in elements of Garage, House, Breaks and Bassline as well as generous sprinkle of the old skool flavouring and the outcome is a bevvy of beauties that when dropped will have bars and clubs holding up signs saying “dancing room only”! This trio of heavy hitters offers plenty of bang for your buck so check em and get em!

Image MK was pretty pleased to have this track featured as a free download by Onefold digital and rightly so, I too got rather excited when I was tagged in the announcement on Facebook, rather humbly, he stated this is probably his best work technically. Personally I’ve been a fan ever since first hearing Image MK’s tracks last year . This IS  a great track though, there’s a great vocal snatch and lots of textured and layered Tech House sounds with nice key switches and it’s a free track, a free track a hundred times better than a good 70% of what is currently available to buy in the online stores, it’s busy, intricate, really well produced and above all, makes you wanna jack!!! A must have compilation of carefully selected tracks that bring together everything that is great about House music in 2016, that’s 2 years and counting of a label you need to know about, Unique2Rhythm, here’s why…..

Perhaps you’re reading this and have a few things in common with me, you’ve come back to house music after quite a long break, you were listening to house way back when on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection, you remember artists like Ten City, Lil’ Louis, Satoshi Tomiie, the late Frankie Knuckles, you thought that golden era from 89-92 was a thing of the past until now. Now you’re back and you appreciate artists like Low Steppa, Eric Kupper, Grant Nelson, you check Traxsource for it’s extensive growing collection of good house music and soundcloud of course. You will have noticed a degree of saturation within the house boom of the last few years, the music channels popping up weekly on soundcloud featuring free content via 3rd party apps, yes there’s no shortage of decent house music but you are pining for memorable tracks that stand out from the crowd, bear with me because I’m like you and I’m telling you “2 Years & Counting” features a staggering 29 tracks, not a single filler, in fact I urge you to Buy From iTunes or any good download store and take a listen, you can even stream the mix below to get a taster and read on just a little further because I’m so eager to share with you why I feel this is THE compilation for you right now.

I discovered Unique2Rhythm last year, I’m a bit of a latecomer which makes me all the more glad for this album. It was down to a track which features on “2 Years & Counting”, a track by Timmy Thomas called “Stand Up”, the Stonelove Mix to be precise, the combination of an amazing voice, loved up lyrics that make the heart melt and a truly timeless production style instantly won me over. I ventured to the U2R soundcloud page and noticed none other than 2 time U.K top 20 artist Kym Sims who after 23/24 years still sounds great, her incredible track “Won’t Do That” is on here too, who else is featured on this album? How about 86Deep, Bumpin Soul, AM2PM, Adam Hyjek, JC Unique, Arneo, Wayne Dudley and a load more talented artists. Over the 29 tracks you will taste the full spectrum of Deep, Tech, Garage, classic house and even shades of Nu Disco and funky house, you will hear very clearly that every single track has been carefully picked by a label owner with a passion for the very best, the best in terms of production, style, sound, ethos and perhaps most importantly tracks that you will be listening to you years from now just like you still listen to Inner City and the all time legends of the good old days, this is today’s house but it’s as timeless as the house that jack built, hit play below then Buy From iTunes

As you have probably noticed, my charts fell off the map a little this year as I got tied up with a pile of music writing and travel. Nonetheless, I was still listening, and so back with fervour is my “Best of 2015” chart. Charts are always top 10, but honestly I could have done a top 50 with the volume of top music that came out this year. Check the links below; in addition to streaming the individual tracks in this post, you can also listen to them as a playlist via Beatport Listen, and tune in to An Obsession With Sound to hear a special year-end mix featuring these 10 tunes.

House music that thinks and jacks out of the box. Mellow Theory’s “House Moods” starts with Jazzy Rhodes piano and dubby FX followed by a luscious drop with elements of breakbeat that form the base of this awesome track, there’s a definite oldskool feel to this but also an innovative one.

As for the remixes, well there are lots of them, 8 in total including Maison Tempo, Soft Wasp and Sakura to namecheck some, if diverse is what rocks your boat and high grade beats are your thing then Buy This Set now!!!
