When posting music here on the ward, we generally use the term ‘old skool’ for music that has a ring of the early 90’s about it. Beatnik City, however, are a label that’s far more old skool than that. Rock n’ Roll, Norther Soul, Motown, Blues, Beat, Mod, Rhythm & Blues and Bossa, is what these guys are all about, the hip-shaking sounds of the 60’s! That is only half of the story though, as they take many classics from that era and then get some of the brightest talent of today to remix, edit and mashup into future classics of their own. These tracks are then compiled on to an album for us to go buy and enjoy forever and there’s no doubting you will.

For their latest album ‘Northern Beats Vol.1′ (which is just as mind blowingly brilliant as the others gone before) they focus their attentions on, Northern Soul and Motown. Nine instantly recognizable classics have been given very respectful and very amazing reworkings from a small and highly skilled collective of present day beat-makers. It’s an album that will have you hook, line and sinker, from the first beat to the last, accompanied by the biggest of smiles and the warmest of glows. Keep the faith ladies and gents!

SanFranDisko, is a one man Disco machine! He has a relentless release rate of his music and all of it comes ingrained with a supreme quality. Whether it’s a retro Disco or a Nu-Disco sound, he makes sure his music is all about the groove, a lot of which has been implanted into his remix of ‘Don’t Let Go’ by, Issac Hayes. Bringing a 70’s Disco vibe, expect funky horns, a very dance friendly tempo and the earth quivering tones of, Issac. Only one thing for it, lets go Disco!
