Document One - Chasing stars / Get Da Funk

Out Now on Technique Recordings :https://technique.lnk.to/CStars
To say that Document One “defy categorisation” wouldn’t quite get across the whole truth. For one thing, it’s a cliché, and to use a cliché to describe their brand of gritty, smoky, jazz-inspired, funk-infused dance floor D&B just wouldn’t be right. After all, they steer well away from cliché in their music, what with their expert melding of the light and the dark, the natural and the synthetic, the laid-back and the crowd-hyping. They’ve created their own category, and the two tracks on this release are here to stretch the limits of it a couple of notches further.
Chasing Stars is the sound of effortlessness. Two different flavours of drum, the techy kick and snare plus the loose cymbals and fills, roll alongside each other in the intro. Meanwhile noodling keys and the eponymous vocal riff create a gentle head-nodding vibe. Then, without breaking a sweat, Document One call this casual jam-session to order, with a grimy bassline that weaves the whole track into a tightly-knit roller. This is dangerous rave material that you don’t see coming.
Then Get Da Funk goes one step more groovy. Yeah, groovy. That’s the word for it. Horns and acoustic drums lay down the vibe, then a Motown-style vocal soars over the top to build things up. Then the drop gives us quintessential Document One, as bass and iron st drums create a rhythmic combination with vocal and horn stabs that is absolutely irresistible. An ice-cool breakdown with added blues guitar gives the opportunity for even more hype in the second drop.
These tracks could easily be onstage recordings from some ultra-slick band. The deftly expert programming doesn’t detract from the feeling of live energy that Document One manage to get in their music. Like the best jazz or funk acts, it’s the sound of accomplished technicians letting loose and having some fun. And while they’re having fun, the ravers are too.
This is D&B as only Document One do it.

Grandé & Preset – Get Fucked Up

Drenched Records head honchos Grandé & Preset make their first appearance on their own label DRNCD.
They make quite the debut slamming the doors wide apart with ‘get Fucked Up’ A hedonistic Bass House ambush with thumping beats and biiiiiig bass!!!
There’s even a little throwback to the Dubstep ear with a cool drop in the middle of this track. As for the remix, Carl Shawn also makes a startling debut with an upfront and brash funky/club style take on the original

Will Varley- Mamado Remixes [13 Records]

Will Varley injects some serious Latino Heat into the House Music sound with ‘Mamado’ and it’s respective remixes. This track would have the late Eddie Guerrero lying, cheatin’ and stealin’ and we could even see Pablo Escobar speeding around on his bike to this one!!!
Some great remix action features on this big 13 Records release. Oli Hodge’s steers the original into a Space, Ibiza style stomp. Steven Billham opts for some additional Tech/Rave stabbage for his excellent re-rub. Graeme Vass brings the funk to the forefront with a funky shuffler of a refix. Here’s a truly unmissable package for all you muchachas to get your gangsta groove on to!!!

Carl St Pierre & Mike Jones- Energize EP [De: tached]

De: tached is a brand new house music label launching this October with Carl St Pierre & Mike Jone’s ‘Energize EP’
Regulars to this blog will know we’re big fans of both Carl St Pierre & Mike Jones. Their tracks on the recent Audio Rehab compilation ranked among the best on there. What grabbed us most is the futuristic take on 88/89′ Chicago/Acid House and 90’s U.K Breakbeat Hardcore that is a prominent feature in the sonic style of both artists.
Naturally, keeping in mind how much we love that oldskool influenced sound we love ‘The Power’ from the ‘Energize EP’. This killer track uses samples from the Snap! tune (you all know it!) and BIG 91′ Belgian Rave stabs. This, coupled with a rolling break layered over a bouncing warehouse groove has us throwing it down Carl Cox style in the blog HQ!!!
We haven’t even mentioned the title track yet but we will now. ‘Di Wrecked’ is all kinds of fun. When you blend 80’s rap vox with Black Riot era Todd Terry style riffs, big thumping beats, and slapping basslines you get this ravey roof raiser!!
As a massive bonus, we are treated to two huge remixes on the Energize EP. CASSIM busts out the tops, toms and cowbells for a deliciously chunky remix of ‘Di Wrecked.’ Atypical provide remix number two locking ‘The Power’ in a dark smoke filled warehouse for some irresistible jackin’ action.
We eagerly await the release of this first release on de: tached, talk about setting the bar high from the get go!!!
Release date 24th OCT 2016
